Thomas Enzinger (born April 10, 1963 in Vienna ) is an Austrian director and artistic director .

After attending elementary school and high school in his hometown, Enzinger took acting lessons . He successfully passed the vocational matriculation examination and then worked as an actor for several years. a. at the Theater in der Josefstadt , the Landestheater Linz , at the Wiener Festwochen and at the Simpl cabaret . In addition, he worked in numerous TV productions.

In addition to his work as an actor, Enzinger began to direct himself early on. He has worked exclusively as a director since 1992 and can now boast more than 50 productions at internationally renowned companies. He is considered one of the most established directors in the field of musical entertainment theater, but is also regularly asked for operas.

In 1997, Enzinger and Stefanos Tsialis founded the Schönebecker Operetta Summer , a festival that is attended by up to 18,000 spectators every year.

In 2016 it was announced that Thomas Enzinger has been appointed as the new director of the Lehár Festival Bad Ischl . Enzinger took over this position in May 2017. In the first season he managed the program of his predecessor, which is why Enzinger's own artistic signature was only visible from 2018. The press reported that Enzinger wants to expand the festival program to include French operetta and the revue, Enzinger himself formulates his goals as follows: “1. Not being opportunistic even though I'm doing entertainment theater. 2. To have a full house. ”For 2018, the Lehár Festival Bad Ischl planned Paul AbrahamsThe Flower of Hawaii ”and Franz Lehár's“ The Land of Smiles ”. The two main pieces of the festival were complemented by a varied supporting program. In the summer of 2018, Enzinger was awarded the Frog of the Month by BR-Klassik for his production “The Flower of Hawaii” . At the beginning of 2019, he finally received the frog of the year. In their justification for the award, the jury stated that Enzinger had proven by staging “The Flower of Hawaii” that the operetta is a lively and contemporary form of theater.

In an interview with the Austrian daily Der Standard , Enzinger said that he was convinced that “today's theater” does not necessarily have to come in today's guise. Enzinger speaks of the fact that he likes to play with a wide variety of elements in his productions, often works with exaggerations, but also always looks for an ironic approach.

Thanks to his approach, Enzinger succeeds time and again in bringing productions onto the stage that are highly praised by both the audience and the press: The Kurier is certain that Enzinger's “ Countess Mariza ” will endure and praise the Volksoper's repertoire the director, because he “brings the play discreetly into the modern age”. In October 20219, Enzinger's production of Emmerich Kálmán's "Countess Mariza" at the Hessian State Theater in Wiesbaden was awarded the frog of the month by Bavarian Broadcasting.
