history

In 1906 the wholesale and foreign trade merchant Wilhelm Ernst Hinrich Biesterfeld founded the company W. Biesterfeld & Co., which initially dealt with the salt trade . Chemicals and fertilizers became another mainstay in the 1930s. In-house products were developed and international trade began. In 1930 Walter Biesterfeld joined the company. After his death, his son Dirk J. Biesterfeld inherited the company as a personally liable partner in 1970 and continued the development into an internationally operating group of companies. Today the Biesterfeld Group concentrates on the distribution of plastics and specialty chemicals as well as on the international chemical trade. The parent company Wilhelm EH Biesterfeld GmbH & Co. KG was transformed in 2004 into Biesterfeld AG, the strategic holding company of the group.
