Bigode
Bigode , actually João Ferreira , also João Bigode or João Ferreira Bigode , (born April 4, 1922 in Belo Horizonte , † July 31, 2003 ibid) was a Brazilian football player . He was a defender .
life and career
Bigode began his professional career in 1940 with 7 Septembro-FC . He then played for Atlético Mineiro , with whom he won the Campeonato Mineiro in 1942 and 1943 . From 1943 to 1949 he played with Fluminense Rio de Janeiro and then for a year with Flamengo Rio de Janeiro .
In the Brazilian national team , Bigode played ten games in 1949 and 1950. He won the Copa America in 1949 with Brazil and took part in the 1950 World Cup in his own country .
At this World Cup, Brazil and Uruguay played the decisive game for the title, which later became known as " Maracanaço ": The high favorite Brazil surprisingly lost 2-1 to the underdog Uruguay. On both goals of Uruguay, Bigode was played by his opponent Ghiggia . Along with goalkeeper Barbosa, he is one of the players who are most often blamed for Brazil's traumatic defeat. The Maracanaço was Bigode's last international match.
He died in 2003 at the age of 81 in his hometown of Belo Horizonte.
