Remarks

This polka was created in the summer of 1860 during Johann Strauss' fifth trip to Russia. Incidentally, this was not a lucky star. Strauss was frustrated by some personal disappointments. He also failed to fascinate the audience in the usual way. Once he broke off a concert out of anger or he left his orchestra to play alone and simply disappeared. This sparked a scandal and, by his own admission, was about to be deported. Among the works created at that time is also the bijoux polka . The title name from the French means jewels . But the work did not become a jewel. It just failed. It was also not well received in Vienna, where it was played for the first time on December 2, 1860 in the Volksgarten . Strauss then built it into his Mardi Gras program in 1861. But there was no success here either.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 4 minutes and 2 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
