Bilbao la Vieja (in Basque : Bilbo Zaharra , in German: " Bilbao the old") is a suburb of the city of Bilbao, ( Bizkaia , Spain ). It belongs to the fifth district ( Ibaiondo ).

Bilbao la Vieja is located in the center of Bilbao , between Abando, Casco Viejo and Miribilla.

history

founding

It is the oldest district of Bilbao , even older than the medieval old town. It was founded in 1300.

The medieval old town, which is on the right bank of the Nervión River (today Casco Viejo ), was eminently important for the economic importance of Bilbao. The settlements on the Left Bank, now known as Bilbao la Vieja, are best known for their mining operations .
