The education donors | WeCanHelp gGmbH provides an internet platform on its website which enables its users to generate a kind of donation for a registered non-profit organization of their choice with every online purchase . This gives non-profit organizations the opportunity to generate additional income easily and free of charge. Bildungsspender is a partner of over 6,145 online retailers and over 12,000 non-profit organizations. The total amount of the sum generated so far (03/2020), after having exceeded the million mark since 2015, is over 9.2 million euros.
Basic principle
Price comparison portals and advertising platforms receive a commission from the online retailer for every purchase made within the framework of so-called affiliate marketing . This averages around six percent, but can vary significantly depending on the shop and product. Bildungsspender has made use of this concept and receives corresponding remuneration for online purchases that are started via the platform. Ninety percent of the proceeds from each transaction are donated to a customer-selected, registered charity. The remaining ten percent are used by educational donors to cover their own costs. From a legal point of view, it is not a donation, which is why there is no corresponding bureaucracy regarding documentation and taxation.
The principle used is also known as charity shopping . Furthermore, Bildungspender / WeCanHelp offers an engagement tool for both online retailers and local retailers . Here, an amount donated in advance by the retailer is distributed by their customers. The retailer determines whether it is a percentage of the purchase amount or a fixed amount per purchase.
Bildungsspender can be used with or without registration. In any case, an anonymized code is transmitted to the shop, which the shop then sends back to educational donors in the event of a credit. In addition to the website, a browser extension for Firefox , Opera and Google Chrome known as "Shop Alarm" is offered. There is also a joint app from Bildungsspender / WeCanHelp for Android and iOS . The "shop alarm" automatically reminds users to donate when they call up a shop that is registered with Bildungsspender. Direct donations as well as gifts via SMS , the granting of the bonus of a credit card issued by educational donors or the donation of acquired Payback points are also possible.
Company history
Educational donor developed out of a parents' initiative in 2008. Alexander Klement, who today holds the position of managing director, has been responsible from the start. Since it was not possible to found an association due to the business background and the share capital required for the establishment of a non-profit GmbH (gGmbH) was not available, a non-profit entrepreneurial company (UG) was founded. The educational donor was the second non-profit UG in Germany and the first in Berlin to have been founded since this form of organization was made possible. Since this model for generating funds was completely new at the time, numerous obstacles had to be avoided. So that a broader field of non-profit organizations could benefit from this, the "WeCanHelp.de" page was subsequently launched in 2013/14, which has since been mirrored on the "Educational Donors" page, but not for the foreseeable future will be replaced. Already in the first year almost five-digit donations were generated. In 2015 and 2016, amounts of over 1,000,000 euros were generated. In October 2017, the takeover of the core business of Boost Engagement FBX gGmbH on December 31, 2017 was announced, which pursued a comparable concept, whereby the amount of the donations there could not be taken into account for data protection reasons.
