Bilichild (wife of Theudebert II.)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bilichild (also Bilichilde , Bilithilde , Bilichildis , Bilihildis ; † 610 ) was a Frankish queen and the first wife of Theudebert II , the king of Austrasia .

Allegedly, according to the Fredegar Chronicle , Bilichild was originally bought as a serf by Brunichild , the grandmother of Theudebert II. Because of her beauty, Theudebert married her around 600. She and her husband had a son, Chlothar, and a daughter of unknown name who was betrothed to Adaloald , the underage Lombard heir to the throne in 604 . Theudebert is said to have personally killed Bilichild 610 for alleged marital infidelity.
