Bill Anoatubby (born November 8, 1945 ) has been governor of the Chickasaw Nation , a North American Indian nation in Oklahoma , since 1987 .

Life

Anoatubby attended state schools in Tishomingo , Oklahoma. After graduating from Tishomingo High School in 1964 , he went to Murray State College , a community college in southeastern Oklahoma. There he received an associate degree in business administration in 1970 . Anoatubby then studied at East Central College , where he received a bachelor's degree in accounting in 1972 .

After completing his studies, he worked in the private sector for the next few years. In July 1975, he started working for the Chickasaw Nation. At first he was director of the tribe's health system. In 1976 he was transferred to the finance department.

In the second half of 1979, Anoatubby was first elected Lieutenant Governor of the Chickasaw Nation. In October 1983 he was re-elected. In 1987 he was elected the 30th governor of the Chickasaw Nation. He was able to win all subsequent gubernatorial elections and has held his eighth term in office since 2015.

Anoatubby holds honorary degrees from Bacone College (2012), the University of Oklahoma (2014), Oklahoma City University (2015), and Oklahoma State University (2016).
