The Grupo Bimbo entered in 1986 with the purchase of Pacific Pride Bakeries in the US market. At the time, Pacific Pride Bakeries was the largest independent baker in the San Diego area. Today's company, Bimbo Bakeries USA , was founded in 1998 when Bimbo Mexico bought Mrs. Bairds Bakeries from Texas, which was then the largest family-owned bakery in the United States, and Pacific Pride Bakeries merged.
