Inner Alster regulation

The Inner Alster Ordinance of the Hanseatic City of Hamburg of May 3, 1949 is based on Section 2 of the Ordinance on Building Design of November 10, 1936 (Reichsgesetzblatt I, page 938). By law, it regulates the structural requirements and the use of light for all streets in the vicinity of the Inner Alster .

Structural requirements

  • The main cornice is around 24 m above street level.
  • a stacked storey above the main cornice, whereby the setback of the stacked storey must be at least 80 cm from the front wall
  • Visible pitched roof without roof structures above the penthouse
  • light natural stone or white, light gray or white-colored broken plaster for the exterior walls
  • gray or copper green roofing
  • No colored or reflective window glazing may be used.
  • No component may be higher than 35 m.

Use of light

  • Advertising materials and light signals must be limited to the ground floor, the first floor and the second floor.
  • The light must be white.
