BIO AUSTRIA - Association for the Promotion of Organic Farming is an organization of Austrian organic farmers .

Organization and club goals

The association has around 13,500 members and 360 cooperation companies. Around 100 employees work at state or federal level, 14 members make up the board. There are office locations in Vienna and Linz. Bio Austria represents around 60% of Austria's 21,000 organic farmers with a total turnover of around € 300 million, making it one of the largest organic associations in the EU.

As part of their association, the organic farmers have committed themselves to five values ​​with regard to their products: ecology , dignity of animals , research and innovation, fair prices and “organic food culture”. According to Bio Austria, the goal is the sustainable development of organic agriculture and the securing of sales markets for organic food . It also carries out relevant public relations and lobbying work .

The association defines its own guidelines that go beyond the requirements of the European Union. Products that meet these guidelines can be labeled with the organic seal of the association, the Bio Austria logo .

history

Bio Austria was created in January 2005 (Bio Enquete 2002) from the Bio HARVEST Austria federal association and the two previous umbrella associations Arge Biolandbau and ÖIG Austrian interest group for organic farming . The associations have now joined:

as well as the 5000 Codex farmers (unorganized organic farmers on a voluntary basis ). In 1994, those associations that focused on organic farming split off from ARGE-Biolandbau .
