Bio heating oil
Heating oil EL A Bio or bio heating oil is low-sulfur heating oil with a bio- component that is at least 3 percent by volume. A fatty acid methyl ester (FAME; Fatty Acid Methyl Ester), which is made from rapeseed , soy or sunflower oil and methanol , is usually used as the organic component.
The product name indicates how high the organic content is. With an admixture of 3 to 5.9 percent, one speaks of “heating oil EL A Bio 5” (the A stands for “alternative”) or “Bio 5” or “B5”.
Availability
Bio heating oil is currently only available in some regions of Germany.
Device suitability
According to the equipment industry, bio-heating oil with up to 10.9% bio-content, which corresponds to DIN SPEC 51603-6, can be used in new and existing oil heating systems . From a biogenic share of more than 5.9%, special measures may be required in an oil system.
