Biological half-life

The biological half-life describes the period of time t ½ in which the content of a substance in a biological organism (human, animal, plant, protozoan) has fallen by half solely through biological processes ( metabolism , excretion, etc.). The substances can be incorporated, for example radioactive, toxic or medicinal substances, but also physiologically occurring substances.

In pharmacokinetics , the half-life is the time in which the plasma concentration of a drug has fallen to half of its initial value, i.e. it is metabolized and / or excreted. It can be composed of different processes, some of which have different concentration dependencies.
