Biosatellite 3

Biosatellite was a series of three American earth satellites to carry out bioastronautical experiments on animals. In the second half of the 1960s, the satellites were brought into orbit between 295 and 374 km with delta rockets. The total mass was 425 to 695 kg, of which about 200 kg were accounted for by the re-entry body.

Surname begin Remarks
Biosatellite 1 December 12, 1966 Repatriation failed. The re-entry vehicle remained in orbit after the brake engine was ignited.
Biosatellite 2 September 6, 1967 Reentry bodies landed after 17 orbits around the earth with plants, microorganisms and insects.
Biosatellite 3 June 29, 1969 On board was a 6 kg southern pig monkey named Bonnie. A 30-day flight was planned. The experiment was stopped after nine days in orbit because of the deteriorating health of the monkey. The landing succeeded, but the monkey died soon after.
