Birger Jesch

Birger Jesch (* 1953 in Dresden ) is a contemporary German artist who specializes in concrete poetry , action art and conceptual art ( Mail Art ). He also works with historical pattern rollers in the field of monument preservation .

Life and work

From 1962 to 65 he attended the university children's home of the Moravian Brethren . He initially trained as a decorative painter.

Since the early 1970s, he made experiences in various subculture scenes in the GDR . Since 1979 , Birger Jesch has been an actor in the Mail Art Network, together with the Dresden mail artists Jürgen Gottschalk , Martina and Steffen Giersch and Joachim Stange from the State Security Service of the GDR ( MfS ) in the operational process (OV) " enemy " and. a. because of the cooperation in the project " Social Peace Service " observed and fought. Since 1982, Jesch has also been involved in autonomous original graphic editions such as “and”, “spinne” and “Entwerter / oder”. On the occasion of the first free elections in the GDR (March 1990), he realized the person ad project “Anna Blume Collection”. His project "Gazetta (1995) is documented (no longer linked) in the archive of the research department of the State Museum Schwerin.

Since 2003, Jesch has been working on the subject of portraits using silhouette and pochoir . Furthermore, he deals with historical pattern rollers and their contexts, has compiled an extensive collection and publishes on this topic.
