Birgit Menz (politician)

Birgit Menz (born May 16, 1962 in Suhl ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ) and a member of the Bundestag . As a successor, she was a member of the Bundestag from 2015 to 2017 .

Family, education and work

Menz has lived in Bremen since 1997. She is lied to Klaus-Rainer Rupp (Die Linke), Member of the Bremen Parliament .

After graduating from college, she completed an apprenticeship as a bookseller . After several retraining courses, she worked as a clerk in an engineering office before her Bundestag mandate.

Since September 1978 she is a union member, currently at the United Services Union Ver.di .

politics

Menz has been active on the political left since 1981 . She was a member of the SED , then the PDS and finally the Left Party .

She has been on the advisory board of the Ostliche Vorstadt district in Bremen since 1999 . She has been with the Bremen Foundation for Arms Conversion and Peace Research since November 2006 and has been on its board since October 2007.

She was treasurer in the Suhl district association for two years and has been part of the board of directors or the audit commission for many years - both in Suhl and in Bremen.

For several years she has been active in the Bremen Peace Forum.

She ran for the Bremen citizenship election in 2011, but could not move into the citizenship above her list position 11.

Member of the Bundestag

For the 2013 federal election she was elected to third place in the list for the Bremen regional association, but could not move directly into the Bundestag. On March 16, 2015, she replaced Agnes Alpers in the Bundestag.

Menz was named as a member of the Committee for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety . In addition, she was a deputy member of the Committee for Transport and Digital Infrastructure and the Committee for Education, Research and Technology Assessment . In addition, Menz was secretary and had taken on the role of chairwoman in the parliamentary advisory council for sustainable development .

Remarks

  1. Günter Matthiessen , who would have been the immediate successor of Agnes Alpers at number 2 on the list, renounced and stayed in Bremerhaven for family reasons, so that Birgit Menz moved up from 3 on the list to join the Bundestag.
