Birgit Plescher

Birgit Maria Plescher , née Schlung , (born April 2, 1966 in Wasserlos ) is a former German basketball player .

career

Under her maiden name Birgit Schlung, she took part in the European Junior Championships in Spain  in 1984 and was the third-best scorer of the German selection with 12 points per use. She later played a total of 130 international A matches for Germany between July 1985 and June 1995 and was temporarily the captain of the German Basketball Association . At the European Championship in 1995 she was used in five games and scored 3.8 points per encounter.

At club level, Plescher, famous for her versatility, played for DJK Aschaffenburg, with which she was promoted to the women's basketball league in 1987  . She later moved to Agon Düsseldorf, the German series champion of the 1980s and early 1990s, and then played for BTV Wuppertal . Plescher won the German championship five times.

After her competitive sports career, the basketball player, who was married to Wolfgang Plescher (former doctor of the German women's national team and from BTV Wuppertal), continued to practice her sport and, among other things, won the European championship in the age group over 50 in 2018 with the German selection.

Her son Moritz Plescher also embarked on a competitive basketball career . She passed on her experience as a trainer at Velberter SG and Mettmann Sport, among others, as an assistant trainer at the West German Basketball Association and as director of basketball camps.
