Birmingham, North Warwickshire and Stratford-upon-Avon Railway

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Birmingham, North Warwickshire and Stratford-upon-Avon Railway was a railway company in England in the county of Warwickshire .

The company was founded on August 25, 1894. Originally it was planned as part of a larger system, but only received the concession to build a line from Tyseley, a suburb of Birmingham to Stratford-upon-Avon .

The company failed to raise the necessary capital. Therefore, the Great Western Railway (GWR) took over the company on July 30, 1900 and built the 29 kilometer long railway line from Tyseley, where it branches off from the GWR line, to Bearley , where it meets the GWR line again. Goods traffic was started on December 9, 1907, and passenger traffic on July 1, 1908.
