The biscione is a common figure in heraldry and a heraldic animal with its own name. It is depicted as a large, twisted snake that devours a person or, according to another interpretation, spits it out.

Originally included in the coat of arms of the Italian noble family Visconti , the Biscione became a symbol of Milan and Lombardy with the rule of the Visconti over the Duchy of Milan in the 14th and 15th centuries .
