architecture

The obelisk over a multi-tiered base and substructure is carved out of dark igneous rock and has a polished surface. The substructure originally carried the now lost portrait of Chancellor Otto von Bismarck in a medallion . The monolithic obelisk adjoins a surrounding cornice . A bronze plate with the name of the Reich Chancellor and the inscription "Ehrenbürger von Rheydt", which was probably added later, has been preserved. The property is worth protecting as a monument for local historical reasons.
