The Bismarck Tower of Frankfurt an der Oder was on the Dammvorstadt, today Słubice .

history

The choice fell on the frequently used Götterdämmerung design by Wilhelm Kreis . It had a height of 15 m and was only planned as a pillar of fire without a view function. The platform could only be reached via the crampons. The tower was inaugurated on April 1, 1901. The observation tower offered, among other things, a view of the battlefield of the battle of Kunersdorf .

The cost of 11,000 marks was raised through private donations. The site manager was the building officer Hesse, the work was carried out by master carpenters Otto Stumpf and Ms. Matzdorff from Frankfurt (Oder).

When the Red Army stood in front of Frankfurt, the Wehrmacht blew up the tower on February 20, 1945 in order to give the enemy artillery and air force fewer points of reference in the area.
