The diocese of Comacchio ( Latin Dioecesis Comaclensis ) was a Roman Catholic diocese in Italy with the bishopric in Comacchio . It was a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Ravenna .

history

The Comacchio diocese dates back to the 6th century. The traditional lists of bishops of Comacchio begin with three bishops who, according to the historian Francesco Lanzoni, never officiated: Pacatianus, mentioned in 502, but who was bishop of Imola and not of Comacchio; an anonymous, allegedly mentioned in the year 592 or 595, who is only mentioned in a forged letter from Pope Gregory I ; as well as a certain Ambrosius, who is said to have lived around the year 600, which is the result of an incorrect reading of the "Garampi register".

On May 18, 1964, the territory of the Territorial Abbey of Pomposa was added to the Diocese of Comacchio and the diocese was renamed Comacchio-Pomposa . The Diocese of Comacchio-Pomposa was dissolved on September 30, 1986 and united with the Archdiocese of Ferrara under the name of the Archdiocese of Ferrara-Comacchio .
