The Bitcoin Foundation is a non-profit corporation founded in September 2012 and based in Washington, DC

Your goal is the development of open source Bitcoin - software advance, while the use of cryptocurrency promote.

The founding members include: Gavin Andresen , Charlie Shrem , Mark Karpelès , Peter Vessenes , Roger Ver , Patrick Murck and Mehul Puri .

Former Vice Chairman Charlie Shrem resigned in January 2014 after he was arrested for money laundering related to the drug trafficking platform Silk Road . Former board member Mark Karpelès also resigned after his company, then the world's largest Bitcoin trading platform Mt.Gox , had to file for bankruptcy under dubious circumstances . Brock Pierce has been the director since 2014 .

The Bitcoin Foundation is a sponsor of bitcoin.org.
