Bjørn Poulsen (historian)

Bjørn Poulsen (born March 30, 1955 in Klippinge ) is a Danish historian .

Bjørn Poulsen studied history and ethnology at the University of Copenhagen from 1975 to 1983 . He then decided to do a doctorate with the help of a research grant. In 1989 he received his doctorate in Copenhagen on land. City. Market. Two economic landscapes in Schleswig in the 15th century . The work provided important results on the rise of the Husum harbor . After completing his doctorate, he worked as a research assistant at the Sønderjylland State Archives . In 1997 he became a lecturer in medieval history at Aarhus University , where he has been a professor since 2001.

He is a member of The Danish Council for Independent Research (Humanities). His main research interests are the cultural and social history of Scandinavia and Schleswig-Holstein in the Middle Ages and early modern times. His work deals with topics such as farmers' money, studies on Schleswig's bills from 1400 to 1650. Together with Klaus-Joachim Lorenzen-Schmidt , he published an anthology in 1992 on peasant writing books as sources for economic and social history. With Nils Hybel he published a comprehensive handbook on Danish economic history in 2007, the second edition of which appeared in 2013. Together with Soeren Michael Sindbaek, Poulsen published the results of a conference in Aarhus, Denmark, on the question of the extent, shape and significance of manorial rule in Scandinavia.
