Bjarte Bruland (born April 11, 1969 in Førde ) is a Norwegian historian.

Life

Bjarte Bruland studied history. As cand.phil. In 1996 he was appointed to a committee of inquiry by the Ministry of Justice to investigate the Aryanization in Norway and the restitution claims of the persecuted Jews. While the majority of the committee did not recommend any further compensation, he and the psychologist Berit Reisel submitted a minority vote , which became the basis for compensation due to further political pressure. Between 2007 and 2019 Bruland worked as a curator at Jødisk Museum i Oslo and as director of the Jewish Museum Trondheim . He received his PhD from the University of Bergen in 2018 . Bruland researches the history of the Jews in Norway and in particular the extermination of the Jews in the time of the German occupation of Norway after 1940.
