Sasikumar Mukund (born January 14, 1997 in Chennai ) is an Indian tennis player .

Career

Mukund played professional tournaments from 2013 and initially managed to stay in the top 500 of the tennis world rankings from 2015 . That year he won his first tournament on the third-rate ITF Future Tour . Another title followed in the following year, and in 2017 he was successful three times. Due to a higher ranking, he took part in tournaments of the ATP Challenger Tour more often from 2018 , where he has never won more than one match. In Anning , he advanced to a Challenger quarter-finals for the first time, where he was defeated by Jordan Thompson . Two weeks later he succeeded in doing this again in Qarshi , having started both times from qualification. Three more times at the end of the year he failed to make it past the quarter-finals: in Shenzhen , Bangalore and Pune . As a result, he was able to finish the year in the top 300 in 295 for the first time.

Over the course of 2019, Mukund only started at Challengers. In his hometown of Chennai , he made it to the semi-finals for the first time in the sixth attempt. In August he went one step further and faced the Australian James Duckworth in the final of Baotou , to whom he was defeated in two sets. He also reached his only final in doubles so far in Baotou, which was also lost. The rest of the season as well as the beginning of 2020 went without any further highlights, it did not make it past the quarter-finals in any of the tournaments. In February 2020 he came to his first tournament at this level thanks to a wildcard at the ATP Tour tournament in Pune . At his premiere he was defeated by Taro Daniel in two sentences. In October he had also reached his highest position in the world rankings to date with 229th place.
