mythology

Bláthnat is the daughter of King Mends of Inis Fer Falga ( Isle of Man ), according to another version the daughter of Midir , the elf prince of Brí Léith ( County Westmeath ). When her father's empire is conquered by the Ultern, led by Cú Chulainn and Cú Roí , she is taken prisoner. A magic cauldron is also stolen. Although Blàthnat loves Cú Chulainn, Cü Roí demands her as spoils of war and marries her. In revenge, she betrays her husband to his enemies and Cú Chulainn, offended by the forced marriage, kills him. Blàthnat himself is killed for her betrayal by the bard Cú Roís, Ferchertne (also Fercherdne), also killed. He jumps with her from a cliff into the sea.
