Ruins of the Black Castle of Moulin

Black Castle of Moulin ( Scottish Gaelic : Caisteal Dubh Mhaothlinne or An Sean Chaisteal ) is a ruined castle in the village of Moulin in the municipality of Pitlochry in the Scottish administrative division of Perth and Kinross .

The castle, of which only the remnants of the north-western round tower are preserved, was built by Sir John Campbell from Lochawe on an island in a lake that no longer exists today. The castle was set on fire in 1512 for fear of the plague and then fell into disrepair. The lake was drained around 1720 and remained a swamp for about 100 years before it dried up completely. Today the ruin is a Scheduled Monument.
