The Blackburn RB 3A Perth was the successor to the Blackburn RB1 Iris as a long-range reconnaissance flying boat for the British Air Force. The design was the same for the two models: a three-engine, double-decker flying boat with three in-line engines. The Perth , however, had more powerful engines , a closed cockpit and more powerful armament: a 37 mm cannon was used to combat ships.
In January 1934 the first flying boat was put into service; Tail problems made thorough modifications necessary. The last copies were retired in 1938.
