action

In Blackthorne, the player takes on the role of Kyle Blackthorne, who has brute strength and cunning cunning. In every level of this action-packed adventure, the player encounters many dangers when he faces the fight against mutated monsters and goblin hordes on the futuristic planet Tuul.

Style of play

The game follows the story of protagonist Kyle “Blackthorne” Vlaros, who wants to take revenge on the evil ruler Sarlac in order to free his people. The game is an action-adventure game in which the player sees the character from a side view against a fixed background. The style of play is very similar to Prince of Persia . Blackthorne runs and climbs over platforms, ladders and elevators, finds keys and other items that open doors and allow him to move forward. In contrast to Prince of Persia , however, instead of a sword, firearms and bombs are used as weapons. Both Kyle Blackthorne and his opponents can avoid damage by pressing against the walls to dodge projectiles. A pump gun is used as the primary weapon . As the game progresses, Blackthorne can also receive useful items or upgrades from allies.

The game comprises seventeen levels in a total of four worlds. The Sega 32X version even includes another world, consisting of four additional levels, which cannot be found in any of the other versions.
