Bladnoch is a whiskey distillery in the village of Bladnoch near Wigtown , Dumfries and Galloway , Scotland . The distillery building is classified in category B in the Scottish monument lists.

history

The distillery was founded in 1817 by the brothers John and Thomas McClelland. In 1905 production ceased and in 1911 it was sold to Wm Dunville & Co. Ltd. sold. From October 1912 whiskey was distilled again. Numerous short-term closures followed by 1937. In 1938 the distillery was sold to Ross & Coulter , the stills were dismantled and brought to Sweden. It was not until 1956 that the distillery was acquired by Bladnoch Co. Ltd. rebuilt. In 1964 the distillery was sold to McGow & Cameron , who had two more stills installed in 1966. In 1973 Inverhouse Distillers bought the distillery, in 1983 it went to Arthur Bell & Sons and in 1985 to United Distillers , which they closed in 1993. In 1995 the operation was bought by Raymond Armstrong from Northern Ireland and in 2000 it was started up again with two stills. This whiskey has only been available in stores as a single malt since April 2008 . In addition, there are mostly independent bottlings from production before 1994.

In 2015 the distillery was bought by the Australian entrepreneur David Prior. The modernization of the distillery began in February 2017.

At the beginning of 2017 three new bottlings appeared: Bladnoch Samsara, Bladnoch 15yo Adela and Bladnoch 25yo Talia

Bladnoch is the southernmost whiskey distillery in Scotland.

The distillery, which is part of the Lowland region, comes from the Bladnoch River . It has a mash tun ( mash tun ) (5.4 t) made of stainless steel , six fermentation vats ( wash backs ) made of Douglas fir wood , a coarse bladder ( wash still ) (13,500 l) and a fine blister ( spirit still ) (10,000 l).
