Blanchinus is an impact crater in the southwest of the lunar front , east of Mare Nubium , south of La Caille crater and north of Werner .

The rim of the crater is badly eroded, the bottom of the crater is flat.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Italian astronomer Giovanni Bianchini .

West of Blanchinus, when the moon is around 6.7 days, shortly before reaching the first quarter of the moon , the visual effect Lunar X can be observed on the lunar terminator .
