The Blaser R93 is a hunting rifle and refers to a series of bolt action rifles that was developed by Horst Blaser and produced in large numbers and numerous caliber variants by the Blaser Jagdwaffen company until 2016. From the Blaser hunting rifles GmbH more than 100,000 copies were made since the R93 Launched in 1993 by 2010.

description

The locking system of this weapon is designed as a straight-pull repeater and is based on expanding claws that lock in the barrel of the weapon (sometimes called collar lock, radial collar lock or also called "Gardena lock").

Design flaw

In 2004 around 0.4 percent of all R93 cans were fitted with a plastic lock guide. This led to the automatic opening of the shutter and is said to be responsible for various accidents. It could not be proven whether the cause of the accident was due to the design of the weapon or to user errors during reloading . After tests by the German Testing and Testing Institute for Hunting and Sporting Weapons , the manufacturer recalled all weapons with a plastic lock guide and replaced them with an aluminum lock guide.

successor

The successor to the Blaser R93 is the Blaser R8 bolt action rifle, which has been on the market since 2010. The R8 has a wider fore-end because the removable magazine takes up more space. A major difference between the weapon and its predecessor is that the magazine forms a unit with the trigger group. So buying more magazines is a bit costly. This is not the case with the R93. The magazine of the R8 holds one more cartridge than that of the R93, which is about 300 grams lighter. Blaser Jagdwaffen GmbH also developed further variations of the stocks, which are now also available for the R93.

Use by the police and the military

The versions Blaser R93 Tactical and the successor Blaser Tactical 2 are in use by various police units as well as in the Australian military. The design-related quick reloading and the quick barrel change are probably convincing here.
