Blue shirt (Swabian Alb)
The blue shirt was a traditional item of clothing for the male population in the Swabian Alb in what is now Baden-Württemberg . The blue shirt, originally known as a carter and weaver shirt, was mainly worn on weekdays as work clothing by farmers on the farm and in the fields. The shirts hanging over the belt often had white, red or black embroidery on the armpits. When the mechanical looms were invented, the blue shirt became known in Württemberg . Until the middle of the 20th century it was still to be seen frequently in the villages of the Swabian Alb. Even today it is still available in specialty stores. The blue shirt is now worn as casual clothing and is now also available in children's sizes and in different colors.
