The Blaumanis Monument ( Latvian Blaumaņa piemineklis ) is a memorial to the Latvian writer Rūdolfs Blaumanis in the Latvian capital Riga .

location

The monument is centrally located in Basteiberg Park north of Riga's old town.

Design and history

The monument was created in 1929 by the sculptor Teodors Zaļkalns and unveiled on November 10, 1929. As early as 1935, the monument was relocated from Basteiberg to the intersection of Krišjāņa Barona iela and Blaumaņa iela . Ultimately, the new location was perceived as unsuitable due to the limited space available there, so that in 1948 the company was relocated to the old location. In 2001 it was moved again within the park and placed closer to the city canal bridge.

The blue anise monument is about 3.20 meters high and shows a sculpture sitting on a large pedestal depicting Rūdolf's blue anis.

On the front of the base there is an inscription in Latvian with a quote from Blaumanis' poem Tālavas taurētājs ("My gold is my people [,] my honor is his honor [!]"), His name and his life dates:

Mans tents
ir mana tau-
ta mans gods
ir viņas gods
