Blender (cryptography)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
With this nomenclator four special secret characters were used as blenders (here: "Nulles" )

As Blender (also: filler , rivets or zero , Eng .: blog , dummy , filler or zero ) are in cryptography , which is the science of encryption of information called characters that no message contained but its main purpose is to blind a possible unauthorized decipherer , that is, to confuse it and to occupy it with senseless cryptanalytic activity.

Blenders can be randomly interspersed in a text, for example. However, they are often also used to fill in the ciphertext at the beginning or at the end, for example in order to achieve a uniform format, or to disguise stereotypical parts of text such as greetings , which are a popular target for code breakers (see also: Crib ).

Filling quote

Occasionally complete radio messages also consist entirely of dazzlers. This is done to simulate radio activity to the opponent. Such sayings are referred to as “filling sayings”. In the history of cryptology there was a special filling phrase whose nature was recognized by the opposing code breaker and whose analysis had important consequences. See: Mavis Lever .
