Institute for the Blind

An institute for the blind is a social institution for visually impaired and blind people. In 1804 Johann Wilhelm Klein founded the first institute for the blind in the German-speaking area in Vienna .

Regional institutions

Bavaria and Thuringia

The Blindeninstitutsstiftung maintains institutes for the blind in Würzburg, Munich, Rückersdorf (near Nuremberg), Regensburg, Thuringia (Schmalkalden and Erfurt), on the Lower Main (Elsenfeld and Niedernberg) and in Upper Franconia (Kulmbach). The foundation is based in Würzburg and was established in 1853.
