Barthélemy Adoukonou

Barthélemy Adoukonou (born August 24, 1942 in Abomey ) is a Beninese Roman Catholic clergyman and emeritus Curia Bishop .

Life

The Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , Grégoire-Pierre XV. Cardinal Agagianian , ordained him priestly for the diocese of Abomey on December 16, 1966 .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on December 3, 2009 secretary of the Pontifical Council for Culture and on September 10, 2011 titular Bishop of Zama Minor . He was ordained bishop by Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB on October 8th of the same year; Co- consecrators were Gianfranco Ravasi , President of the Pontifical Council for Culture of the Pontifical Commissions on the Cultural Goods of the Church and for Sacred Archeology , and Giuseppe Bertello , Governor of the Vatican City and President of the Pontifical Commission for the Vatican City State .

The Pope made him a member of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications on December 29, 2011 . Upon reaching the age limit of 75 years, Pope Francis accepted his resignation on August 24, 2017. In autumn 2017 he became head of a research center for anthropology in Benin.
