Blind rivet nut

Blind rivet nut or rivet nut with M8 thread made of V2A stainless steel

Blind rivet nuts are one-piece threaded hollow rivets that are set “blind” from one side, efficiently and without reworking.

functionality

They produce stable threads in thin-walled materials or hollow profiles. The nuts are usually used for screw connections, but can also be used in a combination of riveting and additional screwing. A resilient thread is created especially on thin components and hollow profiles.

Determination of the clamp thickness

In addition to the correct selection of the thread size and material of the nut, the clamping area of the nut must be selected depending on the clamping thickness. If the clamping thickness is at the limit of the clamping range, preliminary tests should be carried out. For example, sheet thickness or drilled hole tolerances may require the use of a blind rivet nut with a larger or smaller clamping area.

Hole size

As a rule, the hole size should not be larger than the shank dimension of the nut to be used plus 0.1 mm. If this hole tolerance is adhered to, the shaft expansion that occurs during the setting process gives the nut a firm hold, even against rotation.

Torsion requirement

If special requirements are placed on the torsional strength, blind rivet nuts with a knurled or hexagonal shaft are suitable. Blind rivet nuts with a knurled shank should only be used in relatively soft material.
