Blister (sail)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A blister - also called a flasher or MPS (multi-purpose spinnaker) - is an asymmetrical spinnaker sail . Like the symmetrical spinnaker, the blister is used as a headsail before all other sails , mostly on downwind or space sheet courses .

In contrast to a symmetrical spinnaker, a blister is driven without a spinnaker pole. This makes it easier to use and is therefore popular with cruising sailors. On sailing yachts with a profile forestay (roll jib / genoa) it can be easily trimmed with the help of a blister roll. It is a trimming roller that enables a blister or other light wind sails (e.g. gennaker ) to be trimmed from the cockpit on sailing yachts with a profile forestay (roll jib / genoa) .

The blister is often made of colored cloth. On the one hand it has the advantages of a bulbous light wind sail, on the other hand it is easy to use, as the sail neck is attached to the bow with a strop or to the forestay with the above-mentioned blister roll .

Another relief offers one, even with spinnakers and gennakers used, sock is simply pulled after setting the "sausage" up to the head of the sail and the mountains above the sail down.
