Blitor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Blitor († autumn 316 BC ) was a governor of Mesopotamia during the early Diadoch Wars .

Blitor officiated in 316 BC. As satrap of Mesopotamia. In the autumn of this year he supported Seleucus' escape to Egypt , which thus escaped the threat of being eliminated by Antigonos Monophthalmos . This in turn had Blitor executed for it.

Beyond that, nothing is known about Blitor. Presumably he had already been a follower of Seleucus, who had been a member of Seleucus since 320 BC. Officiated as satrap of Babylon . It is possible that he came from Seleucus in 317 BC. Was appointed satrap of Mesopotamia after the previous incumbent Amphimachus had allied himself with Eumenes of Cardia that year . This could explain Blitor's aid in Seleucus' escape. After Blitor's death and the flight of Seleucus, Antigonus Monophthalmos was the undisputed lord of the Mesopotamia. He installed Peithon as satrap of Babylon, to whom he probably also entrusted the administration of Mesopotamia.
