Blizzard Beach is a water park at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando , Florida.

The park opened on April 1, 1995 and was the third water park in Walt Disney World after River Country (now closed) and Typhoon Lagoon . The theme of the park is based on a Disney legend. After a heavy snow storm in the area, a businessman wanted to open Florida's first ski resort. The snow didn't stay long, however. What remained was a mountain with water-filled ski jumps and a chair lift. The facility was supposed to be closed when an alligator was observed to slide down a jump and land in a pool of water. After that, the ski area was reopened as a water park. An alligator named Ice Gator serves as the mascot.

The majority of the slides start on Mount Gushmore, an artificial hill 27 meters high. The slide technology is housed in it, so that no water pipes can be seen from the outside. The slides on the summit are divided into three slopes: green, red and purple

All water basins are heated to a temperature of 26 ° C.

Bringing cool bags is allowed in the park, but glass bottles and alcohol are prohibited, but beer and cocktails can be purchased.

Green slope

The green slope slides are all single-tube water slides located at the highest point of Mount Gushmore.

  • Summit Plummet is the park's largest slide. With a height of 36 meters, it is the second highest (and second fastest) slide in the world. Depending on the size and weight, up to 90 km / h can be achieved. Until the opening of Insano ( Ceará , Brazil, 41 meters, 105 km / h), the slide was mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records as the highest free fall slide in the world. (Minimum size 122 cm)
  • Teamboat Springs is a whitewater rafting slide for the whole family. Four to six people (English in large Gummirafts raft : inflatable) to the valley glide through rapids, the 426-meter course.
  • Slush Gusher is a 27 meter high and 76 meter long slide on which a maximum speed of 56 km / h can be reached. Due to two small jump elements, the slide loses contact with the slide for a short time and has the feeling of flying.

Purple slope

  • Downhill Double Dipper is a since-since-the-race slide. It consists of two straight 15 meter high and 70 meter long slides, the theme of which is a ski race. Both participants sit in plastic tires, at the start a gate is removed that holds the tire back, so there is no need to push yourself. Maximum speed 40 km / h, minimum height 122 cm.
  • Snow Stormers is a mat slide made up of three winding tubes, 105 meters long. The guests slide in prone position on the mats through a simulated slalom downhill course.
  • Toboggan Racers consists of eight parallel 75 meter long tracks. The participants can deliver a race in which they slide with their mats on the bumpy lanes towards the goal.

Red slope

Runoff Rapids is the only red run attraction. It consists of three winding tubes 180 meters long, one of which is completely closed. The route can be completed with tires for one or two people. All three slides end in the same target pool.

Valley level

Meltaway Bay is a 4,000 square foot wave pool located at the base of Mount Gushmore. Melt water constantly runs into the pool and creates small waves.

The Cross Country Creek is an approximately 900 meter long ring-shaped slow-current channel (lazy river) that runs along the outer edge of the park. Lying on tires, guests can drift around the park and through a cool ice cave. In this they are occasionally cooled down with cold melt water. There are seven entry options so that guests can drift along any part of the route. The complete lap takes 20 to 30 minutes.

Ski Patrol is the area for toddlers

  • Leisure Pool - The pool contains ice floes on which children under the age of 12 can cross the pool.
  • Fahrenheit Drops - is a cable car for children under 150 cm tall, at the end of which they drop into a 250 cm deep pool of water.
  • Freezin 'Pipe Springs - a slide with no size limit.
  • Cool Runners - a wide tire slide with rapids.

Tike's Peak is made up of gentle slides that are miniature versions of Blizzard Beach's attractions. There is also a play fountain with water jets. Size limit 122 cm.

The Chairlift - The chairlift takes guests in triple armchairs to the top of Mount Gushmore. The armchairs are equipped with a parasol and skis, matching the theme of the park. Except for physically handicapped guests there is no descent.
