The Blobe Ziege (Tyrolean for blue goat ) is a Tyrolean mountain goat .

Exterior

The Blobe Goat is named after its blue-gray coat drawing. She is stocky and medium to large in size; adult females weigh 50 to 75 kilograms, males between 65 and 85. The neck and head are both medium-long, the head quite broad with a concave nasal bone. As a rule, Blobe goats are horned.

The fur above the thick undercoat is usually medium to short-haired, but long-haired Blobe goats are also recorded in the herdbook . While the fur on the body may only show gray tones in soft transitions, a white spot on the head and a white mirror are allowed. The legs may be gray to black boots; dark gray to black areas are usually found on the head.

"Blob Ganserte" describes a color variant in which only the back half of the body is gray, the front half is white.

The udder is set high, which reduces the risk of injury in rough terrain.

use

Bare goats can be kept at an altitude of 2,500 to 3,000 meters above sea level and can support the continued existence of high alpine pastures by grazing high areas where other grazing animals reach their limits. They are robust, sure-footed, muscular and good feed converters.

The bare goat is one of the multi-purpose breeds. It has a broad back, a deep chest and a wide pelvis, which is not typical for goats. Thanks to her good muscling, she is also interesting as a meat supplier and not only for the dairy industry.

Breeding history

The Bare Goat is only available in small numbers; in ÖPUL 2007 of the agri-environmental program it was classified as highly endangered. The association "Blobe Goaß" and ARCHE Austria are trying to save the old goat breed. The Tyrolean Goat Breeding Association is involved in the establishment of a regular maintenance breeding program that has been in operation since 2007. In 2009, the Austrian Association for Gene Reserves officially recognized the Blobe goat as an independent breed after a molecular genetic investigation had taken place and the Blobe goat had been differentiated from various other breeds. At that time there were 57 animals in the herdbook.

Representatives of the breed only existed in individual areas of North and South Tyrol .

In order to ensure milk production, breeders must carry out a weight control between the 30th and 35th day of life of the fawns. The weight of the fawns should then be between 11 and 13.5 kilograms.
