Blodsrit is a black metal band from Sweden. The origin of the name is based, according to singer Nazgûl, on an old pagan ritual "in which blood was sacrificed in order to achieve better harvests or a happier love life". The name was chosen "because of its grim effect".

history

The band was founded in 1998 by Kettil and Jimmie "Nazgûl" Nyhlen, initially under the name Skuggrike. Under this name they only recorded the demo The Arrival of Kaos and then separated, the demo recording remained unpublished. Nazgûl renamed the band Blodsrit and continued to lead them alone. In 1999 he recorded the demo Dödens sändebud . The Malaysian record company Psychic Scream Entertainment got one of the 25 published copies and released recordings of Blodsrit on the split CD Storm of Immolation with Ritual Orchestra in 2000 . In the same year the band was signed by Chanteloup Creations from France for an album, during the recordings for the debut Chanteloup Creations had to stop their own activities due to problems arising; the contract was transferred to Oaken Shield Records / Adipocere Records.

In the summer of 2001, the debut album Supreme Misanthropy was released . The band took on more material and recruited the drummer Fiebig (Portal, Carve, Paganizer) to replace the drum computer they had been using until then . With this line-up, the promo CD Secrets Unveiled was created with two new songs, a new version of vid livets slut and a cover of Darkthrones Transilvanian Hunger .

In 2002 Blodsrit recruited the bassist Saphanoz and took on further material. The Andromede studio in France was booked in collaboration with Oakenshield / Adipocere; the studio stay for the recordings of Ocularis infernum was arranged along with a short tour of France together with Crystalium, Nehëmah, Belenos and Himinbjorg. For live performances, the band took on Yxmarder as lead guitarist, who became a permanent member after the tour. In May 2003, Ocularis infernum was published.

The guitarist Emil "Yxmarder" Koverot was dismissed in 2008 from a previously offered position as a teacher in Västervik due to his membership in Blodsrit , even before he could start it.

Style and texts

The band plays primitive Nordic black metal, the main influences of which are bands like Darkthrone , Ildjarn , Burzum , Marduk and Bathory . According to Nazgûl, the music should "have the same effect as a blunt razor blade forcing its way through living flesh"; he hopes that "the music of Blodsrit penetrates the listener and colors his soul with the darkest melancholy".

The lyrics, which mostly deal with “ thoughts of suicide , death longing, violence and blasphemy ”, are for Nazgûl “an extremely important part of the overall appearance and if the lyrics didn't reinforce the extreme side of the music, the creation would be miserable”. Nazgûl mainly reads fantasy books and war stories, which lyrically inspire him, and his personal views on life and death are also reflected in the texts.
