Mercedes-Benz BlueZero is an automotive study by Daimler AG in which the alternative drive technology of the car is largely housed in the sandwich floor under the passenger cell. Thus, the manufacturer enables a larger interior volume. The name BlueZero alludes to the zero emissions and the resulting contribution to the environmental impact of the study.
According to Daimler, BlueZero is a modular concept that comes in three different models with different drive concepts: BlueZERO E-Cell, F-Cell and E-Cell PLUS. The Mercedes-Benz A-Class and B-Class are used as the basis. The cars have five raised seats, a payload of around 450 kilograms and over 500 liters of luggage space. The models share essential technical components.
Models
BlueZERO E-CELL
The Mercedes-Benz BlueZERO E-CELL is an electric car . It has a battery-electric drive and a purely electric range of up to 200 kilometers. This version was introduced at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2009. The model is similar to the B-Class F-Cell, but instead of fuel cells and a hydrogen tank, it has an electric motor and lithium-ion batteries .
BlueZERO F-CELL
The Mercedes-Benz BlueZERO F-CELL is a fuel cell vehicle and, in accordance with the New European Vehicle Cycle ( NEDC ), achieves an electric range of well over 400 kilometers without emissions.
BlueZERO E-CELL PLUS
The Mercedes-Benz BlueZERO E-CELL PLUS is equipped with an electric drive and an additional combustion engine as a power generator. This serves as a range extender to further increase the range of the vehicle. This E-CELL-PLUS version achieves a total range of up to 600 kilometers and can travel up to 100 kilometers purely electrically. This version was presented at the IAA in Frankfurt in September 2009.
