Flower delivery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sending flowers and arranging flowers are basically different logistics systems , both of which offer the possibility of delivering a bouquet of flowers to a specific person at any location and at a predetermined time , possibly supplemented with small presents (such as chocolates, wine bottles, individual greeting cards or vases ) to be handed over if no personal delivery is possible.

functionality

Both sales channels have in common that the interested party first selects the right gift on the Internet or in a flower shop connected to a system and specifies the address of the recipient and the desired delivery time. Payment is made on the Internet using a direct debit , credit card or electronic money ; cash payments are also possible when ordering in a retail shop. In the more recent distribution channel of flower delivery , orders have always been predominantly via the Internet, but there are also a few senders who operate flower shops and accept orders there (example, Blume 2000). In the older distribution channel of flower mediation , orders have always been accepted, and so far mainly in flower shops; However, orders over the Internet are increasing significantly.

When sending flowers , the order is now usually forwarded to a picking center , where the bouquets are tied according to the order. For cost reasons, this distribution channel usually only offers a limited selection of bouquet variants. The flowers are usually put together exactly as requested and shown on the Internet. The bouquets are then packaged and transported directly to the recipient via courier or post. Flowers are usually delivered within 24 hours within Germany. Guaranteed delivery for a specific time can usually be ordered as an option.

Today it is possible to send flowers worldwide because the logistics companies cooperate with partner companies. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was still recommended to place the flowers on damp tissue paper in a lockable box and, in the hot season, to send them in tin cans filled with bits of ice and sawdust . Many flower senders purchase the raw material directly from contractually bound growing companies all over the world, which deliver the flowers by air freight directly to the picking center, largely eliminating intermediaries. The largest flower senders in Germany are u. a. Blume 2000 (part of TOPP Holding AG ) and Valentins (part of Burda Digital Ventures ).

Another special feature of the flower delivery is the elimination of the statutory right of withdrawal , as this may a. for the delivery of fresh goods (e.g. flowers) according to the BGB . Flowers ordered on the internet cannot be returned.

Flower mediation

In contrast to the delivery of flowers, in flower mediation - the best known in Germany is the Fleurop system - the orders are received from a legally independent and mostly owner-managed flower shop visited by the customer and connected to the system - or from the sender directly via the Internet or by phone - forwarded to another affiliated florist near the recipient. Only then will the flowers be arranged accordingly and delivered to the recipient.

The short distribution channel ensures the fastest possible delivery, often on the day of the order. When placing an order in the flower shop, a more individual selection of the flower arrangement is usually possible, but the company ultimately carrying out the work can deviate from this if it does not have certain types of flowers available. Standardized compilations are also increasingly being offered on this distribution channel. The florists who carry out the work obtain their raw materials from supplying middlemen or collect them themselves from wholesale flower markets . These in turn obtain the flowers either directly from all over the world via the import airports or from the large auction centers of the Dutch flower growers (see FloraHolland, for example ). Flower mediation is also possible worldwide. The largest flower retailer in Germany, Fleurop , for example, belongs to the global Interflora system. The regional offer may differ from the offer in Germany due to climatic, religious or other reasons.
