When the company was founded in January 1974, Blume 2000 was the first florist in Germany to introduce self-service for customers in its shops. Even today, the self-service concept is an integral part of the company's business policy.

In addition to the independently operated branches, the company also developed a franchise system . In 1991 the first self-employed franchisee opened a branch in Frankfurt (Oder) . Blume 2000 is a member of the German Franchise Association and was one of the top 20 franchise companies in Germany in 2014 based on the number of businesses. The franchisees usually take over established stores with a permanent customer base.

The company operates in the low-price segment and is mainly represented with branches in the four large regions of North, Berlin, Rhine / Main and Weimar. The franchise system center is located in Norderstedt , the logistics center in Hamburg-Hausbruch , where picking is also carried out centrally. A further three regional branches with a total of over 210 branches are supplied from the logistics center, including around 85 branches operated by franchisees.

In 2002, Blume 2000 generated sales of over 110 million euros. The managing directors are Alexander Zoern (spokesman), Michael Hartges and Michael Herz.

The sister company Blume 2000 New Media AG , a fully consolidated subsidiary of TOPP Holding AG, has been operating the online shop Blume2000.de since 1999 and is the contractual partner for the flower service from Tchibo , the wine retail chain Hawesko (Hanseatisches Wein- und Sekt-Kontor) and other contractual partners . The Management Board of Blume 2000 New Media AG consists of Michael Weber and Jan Herbst.

In-house services are provided by Blume 2000 Systems GmbH & Co. KG and Blume 2000 Concept GmbH , both of which belong to the TOPP Holding AG group.

A sister company of Blume 2000 is bloominess NV in Aalsmeer -Kudelstaart / Netherlands, which supplies Blume 2000 with bouquets, flower arrangements and flower arrangements. Bloominess was founded in 1996 as a joint venture between Blume 2000 and the Dutch company OZ Export . However, the connection was terminated due to the merger of the OZ Group with the Van Duijn Group at the beginning of 2009 to form the Dutch Flower Group . Since then, bloominess has grown through partnerships with a Finnish and a Danish flower shop chain. The Polish subsidiary bloominess Polska based in Ośno Lubuskie is responsible for the production of floristic products .

In addition, Blume 2000 cooperates with the Norwegian self-service flower shop chain Mester Grønn . Mester Grønn has been a co-partner of Bloominess since the first half of 2014.

Since 2014, Blume 2000 has increasingly relied on repositioning from a flower discounter to a flower specialist shop in order to set itself apart from strong competitors such as large grocery stores, gas stations and hardware stores. The new store concept focuses on service. The company has therefore been concentrating more and more on sustainable cultivation in recent years - according to its own information, around 40 percent of the potted plants come from the region and imported cut flowers from certified farms in South America and Africa - and hiring numerous florists. Blume 2000 has been a member of the Dutch environmental foundation MPS since 2013. By checking the areas of energy, fertilizer, garbage, pesticides and water, the foundation ensures that plant products are grown in a socially responsible manner and issues certificates for this.

reviews

In 2002, Blume 2000 was named Franchiser of the Year by the editors of the business magazine Impulse .

In May 2004, Blume 2000 received the test rating “very good” from the consumer magazine Öko-Test . This test does not say anything about the ecological quality of the cultivation of the flowers, since only the internet service with the punctuality and quality (condition of the bouquets) was tested, but no pollution etc. At least all of the roses from Blume 2000 came from plantations at times with the flower label seal. However, the organization that awards the seal is no longer active.

In a test by Computer Bild (issue 3/2007), however - as with almost all flower senders tested - the quality of the bouquets delivered was criticized (quote: "That was due to the green accessories that were no longer fresh when they were delivered. [ …] The shelf life of the delivered goods varied widely. While one of the bouquets […] remained fresh, the other was withered after just two days. "). The overall grade was “sufficient” (3.52).

A test of rose bouquets by Stiftung Warentest , published in February 2007 in Test , also gave significantly poorer marks for Blume 2000 (shelf life: sufficient, mark 3.9; appearance when buying: satisfactory, mark 3.3) and presented (as, however ) at all suppliers residues of pesticides in spite Flower label seal tightly.
