Life

Barack Obama had promised his daughters that they would get a dog if he was elected president. He announced this at his first press conference after the election in November 2008. When Bo moved into the White House in April 2009, media from around the world reported about the dog. A Portuguese water dog was chosen because Malia Obama suffers from a dog hair allergy; Dogs of this rare breed do not shed and are therefore considered hypoallergenic. According to current knowledge, however , hypoallergenic dogs do not exist.

Bo has often been photographed with the Obamas. According to Barack Obama, he was allowed to move around and stay in the entire White House, including the Oval Office .

Several children's books about Bo have been published in the United States, and he is also marketed as a stuffed animal. He was a guest on the TV shows of Jimmy Fallon and Ellen DeGeneres .

Bo died of cancer on May 8, 2021.
