Bob Avakian

Bob Avakian (born March 7, 1943 in Washington, DC ) is chairman and theoretician of the Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP), the largest Maoist group in the United States .

Life

Avakian's grandparents immigrated from Armenia . Avakian was born in Washington and grew up in Berkeley . There he attended high school and the University of California . He has been in the movement for freedom of expression politicized (Free Speech Movement or FSM) and was initially a leader of the Revolutionary Union (Revolutionary Confederation). Avakian co-founded the Revolutionary Communist Party in 1975 and has been its chairman ever since.
