Preston (Bob) Luitweiler ( 1918 - April 13, 2008 in Bellingham (Washington) , USA ) was an American pacifist and one of the founders of the Servas organization .

Life

During World War II he was called up for military service in the USA. He refused to use a gun and was sentenced to prison for his convictions. After the war and serving prison sentence, he considered that the incidents in Hitler's Germany should not be repeated under any circumstances, but that this should not be achieved by military means, but through international understanding. This was his main reason for starting Servas with other pacifists in Denmark in 1949. An organization that, in the early days of Servas, was supposed to make it possible for impoverished Germans to find free accommodation in neighboring German countries in order to free the Germans from the Nazi ideas through interpersonal contact with people from other nations. Over the years, this resulted in a global network "Servas" that mediates hosts and guests. A few years later, Bob Luitweiler founded Servas India.
